Chromalloy renews long-term agreement with Solar Turbines to provide component repairs and new production support

Chromalloy announced that it has renewed a 10-year agreement with Solar Turbines Incorporated to provide component repairs and new production support for the manufacturer’s leading power systems. Under the agreement Chromalloy will be the preferred supplier for a number of component repairs including turbine blades, nozzles and cases.

“This agreement brings the 20-year relationship between Chromalloy and Solar to the next level. We are now partnering with Solar on a broader range of products,” said Carlo Luzzatto, President of Chromalloy. “With our technology capabilities Chromalloy now will support production of Solar’s power systems, while we deliver world-class repair services.”

Work will be performed at Chromalloy locations around the world.

Chromalloy is a leading supplier of technologically advanced repairs, coatings, investment castings, and services for turbine airfoils and other critical engine components. The company serves engine manufacturers and operators in commercial aerospace, defense, and the energy industry. Chromalloy facilities include operations, annexes and sales offices in 17 countries around the world.

 

Senior aviation regulatory and compliance expert joins Chromalloy

Mark Fulmer, a senior aviation regulatory and compliance expert, has been appointed as Chromalloy’s Director of FAA Airworthiness. Fulmer joins Chromalloy from the FAA, where his career spanned key positions including leadership roles in the technical regulatory and policy office, and the engine certification office of the Engine and Propeller Directorate.

Most recently he was Technical Advisor & Project Officer for Directorate Management and other FAA offices on technical, regulatory and policy matters. Earlier he worked at Eastern Airlines as Propulsion Engineering Manager. He began his career at Pratt & Whitney as a Design Analyst. Fulmer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and has received numerous industry awards and recognition.

 

Nardelli appointed business director at Phoenix, Ariz., repair center

Seasoned business leader Rodrigo Nardelli has been appointed Business Development Director at Chromalloy’s Arizona gas turbine engine repair center. Nardelli brings several years of aerospace and defense expertise to Chromalloy, including 12 years in leadership roles at Honeywell Aerospace.

Nardelli has a successful track record in all aspects of management including profit and loss, supply chain, business development, strategy, marketing, forecast analysis, international contracting and customer support. He joins Chromalloy from JBT Corporation’s AeroTech division where he was Global Business Development Director. Earlier he held leadership roles in Honeywell’s defense and space, business and general aviation, mechanical component aftermarket, and electronic systems units.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising from the University of Brasilia, Brazil; a master’s degree in marketing from Fundacao Getulio Vargas, Brasilia, Brazil; and an MBA from Duke University. Nardelli is a Six Sigma Black Belt and licensed private pilot.

 

2014 Western Turbine Users conference slated for Palm Springs, Calif.

Chromalloy will exhibit turbine engine component repairs and services and provide demonstrations of the company’s Tiger® Monitoring and Diagnostic System for predictive maintenance.

Opening comments at Aero-Engines Americas will feature Steve Williams, Director of Aircraft Engine Services, AJ Walter Aviation. The keynote topic is “Managing Outsourced Engine Maintenance.” Presentations will include “The Evolving Market in Engine MRO: An Industry Overview,” “Extending OEM Support to Sunset Engines: What Do Operators Want,” “Partnering with OEMS,” and others.

The conference agenda includes GE services, LM2500, LM5000, LM6000 and LM100. Sessions will include discussions among participants, depots and GE experts. Additional sessions address: “Fuel and Water Valve Maintenance,” “GHG Market Update,” “HRSGs in Flexible Operations,” “Analyzing Complex Vibration Issues,” “PID Control,” “GE New Products,” and others.

POWER-GEN Africa conference and exhibition tees up in Cape Town

The region’s largest conference for the power generation industry will be held March 17-19 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa. The gathering will offer a multi-track conference agenda with technical experts, moderated panels, workshops, an equipment exhibition and technical tours.

More than 2,000 attendees from 60 countries are registered to attend. Keynote speakers are Dikobe Benedict Martins, Minister of Energy, Republic of South Africa, and Steve Lennon, Group Executive, Sustainability, Eskom Group Holdings, Republic of South Africa.

Sessions will cover gas turbines and power requirements, quality control programs, enhancing solar and wind renewables, cost-effective approaches to lowering emissions, creating life cycle value in renewables, maintenance management systems, power station plant improvements, steam turbine retrofits, change management and operational excellence.

Air transport forecast is on the ISTAT Americas 2014 agenda

The annual ISTAT (International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading) Americas gathering gets under way March 16-18 at the San Diego, Calif., Marriott Marquis & Marina. ISTAT Americas 2014 will feature industry leaders discussing market dynamics, panels on aircraft sales and trade, and a manufacturers’ exhibition.

ISTAT President Jep Thornton, Partner, Aerolease Aviation LLC, will deliver the opening presentation, followed by an industry overview from Adam Pilarski, Senior Vice President, Avitas.

The conference includes two days of expert panels covering turbo props, new aircraft, the engine market and product updates, freighter aircraft, valuation, helicopters and leasing.

A financial markets panel will be led by Mark Streeter, Managing Director, JP Morgan, and will include experts from Citi, Deutsche Bank, Boeing Capital, Fidelity, Aircraft Financial and the International Lease Finance Corp.
