Coatings

Chromalloy was the first company to develop commercially viable aluminide coatings, and continues to provide these coatings and their derivatives in support of heavy industry and aeroderivative gas turbine components around the globe. We are one of the world's largest providers of both EBPVD coatings and Low Pressure Plasma Spray Overlay coatings. Newly manufactured parts from Chromalloy can be expertly coated to protect the components and increase their efficiency and reliability at higher operating temperatures and under severe environmental conditions where these engines frequently operate. Advanced coatings pave the way for increased firing temperatures and more efficient component and system designs.

Thermal Barrier Coating

Thermal Barrier Coatings allow the parent metal to operate at cooler temperatures. They are used for base metal and bond coating temperature reduction on blades and vanes for improved durability.

Chromalloy’s Thermal Barrier Coatings allow the parent metal to operate at cooler temperatures.

EBPVD 7YSZ
The Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (7YSZ) ceramic thermal barrier coating is applied by Electron Beam Physical Vapor Deposition (EBPVD) on Commercial Aero, Military Aero, Small Engines including APUs, and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades and vanes.


EBPVD Low K Nd-YSZ
The Neodymium-Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (Nd-YSZ) low thermal conductivity (Low K) ceramic thermal barrier coating is applied by Electron Beam Physical Vapor Deposition (EBPVD) on Commercial Aero turbine and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades.


Air Plasma Alumina
The Alumina ceramic thermal barrier coating is air plasma sprayed (APS) on Commercial Aero turbine blades.

Air Plasma 7YSZ

The Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (7YSZ) ceramic thermal barrier coating is air plasma sprayed (APS) on Commercial Aero turbine vanes, combustors, compressor cases and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades and vanes.


Air Plasma Low K Nd-YSZ
The Neodymium-Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (Nd-YSZ) layered low thermal conductivity (Low K) ceramic thermal barrier coating is air plasma sprayed (APS) on Commercial Aero turbine vanes and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades and vanes.




Abradable Coating

The Abradable System consists of the Abrasive Blade Tip and Abradable Duct Segment for clearance control.

Plated CBN Tip
The CBN Abrasive Tip is applied by composite electroplating on Commercial Aero turbine blades.


Air Plasma Porous 7YSZ
The Porous Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (7YSZ) ceramic Abradable coating is air plasma sprayed (APS) on Commercial Aero turbine duct segments.




Diffusion Coating

Diffusion Coatings are applied for internal and external oxidation and corrosion protection.

Chromalloy applies Diffusion Coatings for internal and external oxidation and corrosion protection.

Pack Aluminide
The Aluminide Coating is applied by pack cementation to internal and external surfaces of Commercial Aero, Military Aero, Small Engines including APUs, and Aeroderivative/IGT compressor blades, disks and diaphragms and turbine blades, vanes, wheels and tip shoes.


Gas Phase Aluminide
The Aluminide Coating is applied by gas phase to internal and external surfaces of Commercial Aero, Military Aero, Small Engines including APUs, and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades, vanes, wheels and tip shoes.


Pack or Gas Phase Chromide
The Chromide Coating is applied by pack cementation or gas phase to internal and external surfaces of Commercial Aero, Military Aero, Small Engines including APUs, and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades, vanes, wheels and tip shoes.

Pack or Gas Phase Platinum Aluminide
The Platinum Aluminide Coating is applied by pack cementation or gas phase to external surfaces of nickel alloy Commercial Aero, Military Aero, Small Engines including APUs, and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades, vanes, wheels and tip shoes.


Pack or Gas Phase Platinum Rhodium Aluminide
The Platinum Rhodium Aluminide Coating is applied by pack cementation or gas phase to external surfaces of cobalt alloy Commercial Aero, Military Aero, Small Engines including APUs, and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades, vanes, wheels and tip shoes.


Pack or Gas Phase Silicon Aluminide
The Silicon Aluminide Coating is applied by pack cementation or gas phase to internal and external surfaces of Commercial Aero, Military Aero, Small Engines including APUs, and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades, vanes, wheels and tip shoes.



Overlay Coating

Overlay Coatings provide external oxidation and corrosion protection.

Chromalloy’s Overlay Coatings provide external oxidation and corrosion protection.

EBPVD McrAlY
The NiCoCrAlY, CoNiCrAlY type overlay or bond coating for EBPVD TBC coating is applied by Electron Beam Physical Vapor Deposition (EBPVD) on Commercial Aero, Military Aero, Small Engines including APUs, and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades and vanes.


LPPS MCrAlY
The NiCoCrAlY, CoNiCrAlY type overlay or bond coating is for EBPVD on APS TBC or Abradable coating applied by low pressure plasma spraying (LPPS) on Commercial Aero, Military Aero, Small Engines including APUs, and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine blades and vanes.



Wear Coating

Wear Coatings are for wear resistance of mating surfaces such as shrouded blade hardface and vane flanges.

Chromalloy’s Wear Coatings provide for wear resistance of mating surfaces such as shrouded blade hardface and vane flanges.

Chromium Carbide
The Chromium Carbide wear coating is applied by air plasma spraying (APS) on Commercial Aero, Military Aero, and Aeroderivative/IGT turbine vanes.


Nickel Chromide
Plasma or combustion spray applied coating for surface restoration or as a bond coat. Coating contains 20% chromium, has good oxidation and corrosion resistance and can be used up to 1800°F.
