Chromalloy Castings plans open house at facility
Chromalloy is planning ahead for an open house at its new casting operation, Chromalloy Castings, on Thursday, December 2. The company recently expanded into the new facility in Tampa, Fla., investing some $27 million to offer turbine operators a single source for replacement parts, from design and development through casting, machining and advanced coatings. Tours will be conducted for aerospace and industrial gas turbine operators at the new 115,200 square foot, state-of-the-art facility.

Chromalloy offers Frame 7FA+E exchange program
Chromalloy is now offering turbine engine operators a parts repair exchange service for the Frame 7FA/E power system. The Chromalloy Industrial Exchange program enables turbine operators to input Frame 7FA/E blades and vanes into the company's repair network and immediately receive a repaired replacement set. Rather than wait for service on its parts, the operator can reassemble the power system using the Chromalloy exchange parts. Read More

"Chromalloy's exchange program is a new service that helps customers significantly reduce engine build time," said Pete Watson, Vice President, Industrial Gas Turbine. "It reduces the operators' outage and down-time and will provide savings over other repair services."

To get the new program underway, Chromalloy purchased Frame 7FA/E first and second stage vane segments and repaired the components at facilities in its global turbine engine network. "We have amassed advanced technologies and repairs of industrial and aviation turbines from across the Chromalloy service network and now make it easier for industrial operators to utilize our proven repairs," Watson said.

Chromalloy delivering alternative parts for LM2500+
Chromalloy is delivering the industry's first alternative High Pressure Turbine (HPT) parts for the LM2500+ marine and industrial aeroderivative gas turbine engines. "Chromalloy will deliver a full set of first stage HPT blades for a land-based LM2500+ propulsion system to our launch customer this month," said Armand F. Lauzon, Jr., President. "The customer, a maintenance, repair and overhaul center in Turkey, selected Chromalloy parts to take advantage of significant cost savings, reliability and performance." Read More

"Turbine operators who select Chromalloy's alternative HPT parts realize significant cost savings - up to 30 percent off the catalog price of original equipment manufacturer new parts," Lauzon said. Addressing the demands of LM2500+ marine and industrial turbine operators with lower cost, reliable solutions for alternative parts "was the next step in Chromalloy's strategy to provide operators with reliable, high performance alternative parts as we have for many propulsion systems in the marine and industrial aeroderivative, heavy industrial and aerospace segments," he said.

The LM2500+ engine powers cruise ships and generates electrical energy at industrial sites around the world. The power system is a variant in the LM2500 engine family series and delivers up to 30.5 MW or 40,500 shp. Chromalloy has produced alternative HPT parts for the LM2500 marine and industrial aeroderivative gas turbine engines since 2001 when it delivered the first alternative vanes and blades to a customer operating the LM2500 engine. In 2003 the company expanded its alternative parts offering and announced the sale of its first set of LM6000 parts to an industrial turbine operator.

Chromalloy exhibits at POWER-GEN Europe in Amsterdam
Chromalloy exhibited last month at the POWER-GEN Europe industry event, held this year in Amsterdam. More than 11,000 attended the event, which was co-located with the Renewable Energy World Europe and Nuclear Power Europe industry event. At the three-day trade event the company exhibited its services for the LM2500 gas turbine engine, the Tiger® engine monitoring system, and full capabilities at its newly expanded Chromalloy Castings operation in Tampa, Fla.

Chromalloy exhibits at ASME expo in Glasgow
Among the company's marketing activities this summer was participation in the ASME Turbo Expo in Glasgow, Scotland. Chromalloy Sales and Marketing staff attended the Gas Turbine Technical Congress & Expo, which brings together companies in the industry and academia. Participants in the three-day exhibition portion of the expo included operators, manufacturers and suppliers from the aerospace and power generation industries.
