Chromalloy announced today that it will invest $2.7 million to expand its operation in Bangkok, Thailand, offering gas turbine engine operators in the region additional services, including replacement parts, advanced repairs and coatings.
"With development of a new facility added to our Industrial Gas Turbine and aerospace turbine engine service operation in Thailand, Chromalloy will double our capacity for component repair and coatings,” said Armand F. Lauzon, Jr., President. “We are expanding to better serve customers in the region – and to build on a legacy of repair innovations and exceptional service.”
Turbine Services Thailand, which is wholly owned by Chromalloy, repairs on average 1,200 industrial gas turbine engine components each month and plans to double the capacity as it doubles the work space and adds additional advanced coating and heat treatment processes in a new facility at the company’s Bangkok campus.
In addition to advanced heat treatment at the new facility, the service center will house two vacuum furnaces for critical rejuvenation heat treatments and advanced high temperature braze repairs. It will also house advanced coating systems – three robotically-controlled, state-of-the-art High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) and Air Plasma Spray (APS) thermal spray systems. The expansion also will offer surface finishing technology for peening and polishing coatings, High Temperature Braze applications and other surfaces.
The new facility will be operational in early 2010.
"Chromalloy will offer the turbine engine operators a full-service technology repair center capable of repairing E and F Class frame repairs at a single service center,” Lauzon said.
The 13,500 square-foot facility also will include new equipment for aircraft gas turbine engine repair, and will be adjacent to the existing 14,000 square-foot facility occupied by Turbine Services. In total, the company’s service and repair center at Lamlukka, Bangkok, will offer more than 94,500 square feet of operation, providing service for aviation and industrial gas turbine engine service and repair.
The existing repair and service center began operation in 2001 as a Chromalloy Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) combustion repair shop. In 2003 the center became part of a 51:49 percent Chromalloy joint venture offering hot section repairs on all frame units. Earlier this year Chromalloy acquired 100-percent stake in the operation and began developing the expansion plans.
Chromalloy provides turbine engine operators with a full range of services, repairs and replacement parts including high pressure turbine (HPT) blades that cost significantly less than OEM produced equipment. Chromalloy’s FAA-approved replacement parts have demonstrated outstanding reliability, quality and durability in aerospace and industrial applications. Founded more than 50 years ago, the company operates 30 manufacturing and service centers in 14 countries.
In support of land-based applications including power generation systems, Chromalloy employs identical engineering disciplines used to produce its FAA-certified parts for turbine engines that power commercial and military aircraft.
