Chromalloy continues master alloy developments
Chromalloy’s master alloy operation in Tampa, Fla., adjacent to the company’s investment foundry, has commenced production of additional specialty alloys used in aerospace and energy gas turbine component manufacturing.
Dr. Gowri Shankar, Ph.D., Chromalloy Director, Casting Technology, said the company’s master alloy operation has produced 17 batches, or “heats,” of superalloys, including nickel- and cobalt-based compositions. “Tensile and stress rupture testing and other mechanical properties of blended alloys are being validated by Chromalloy customers,” Shankar added.
Walter Johnson, General Manager, Alloy, said, “Chromalloy’s master alloy capability is on schedule for offering manufacturers superior quality ingots using the very precise, complex chemistry controls required of specialty alloys.”
The ingots are used in the production supply chain of complex systems and manufactured parts, including the gas turbine engine components cast by Chromalloy for manufacturers.
