CHROMALLOY RECEIVES FAA APPROVAL OF CFM56 5B/7B HPT TURBINE VANE 1 PMAS

Palm Beach Gardens, FL, November 1, 2024 – Chromalloy, a global leader for aftermarket aerospace solutions, has received a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for its CFM56 5B/7B High Pressure Turbine (HPT) 1st Stage Vane. This new Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) highlights the Chromalloy engineering and manufacturing approach and expands Chromalloy’s portfolio of FAA-approved components that enable high value, certified aftermarket service for commercial aerospace engines.

All Chromalloy’s PMAs are equivalent to OEM parts, meeting FAA standards, and are a direct product of the company’s long-term investment in turbine airfoil design, as well as a cooperative approach to FAA engagement. Chromalloy remains committed to ensuring aftermarket part quality and availability, and providing engine owners, service centers and operators with an alternate solution for overhaul value creation, using PMA, Designated Engineering Representative (DER) repairs and Used Serviceable Material (USM).

Chris Celtruda, Chief Executive Officer of Chromalloy, commented, “Achieving FAA approval for the CFM56 HPT Vane 1 PMA, our second new FAA-approved PMA in as many months, underscores our ongoing commitment to deliver quality-engineered options to support our customers’ fleet management strategies. Chromalloy’s PMAs are produced via an independent supply chain, which enables better inventory availability for engine service centers.” This approval follows Chromalloy’s existing PMA for the CFM56 Low Pressure Turbine (LPT) Vane 1 which received FAA certification in 2021. The company continues to invest in new parts and services for turbine restoration, with continued focus on DER repairs and PMA solutions for both the V2500 and CFM mid-life engine platforms.

The CFM56 5B/7B platform, with over 17,000 engines in service, represents a substantial portion of the commercial aerospace aftermarket. The addition of the HPT Vane 1 PMA offers operators an OEM equivalent, independently sourced engine hot section restoration solution. Chromalloy’s HPT PMA closely follows the FAA approval of Chromalloy’s V2500 Select HPT 2nd Blade PMA in September.

With 65 gas path PMA parts developed and FAA certified, over 6 billion flight hours, and 400,000 parts sold, Chromalloy’s PMAs demonstrate a record of reliability with zero Airworthiness Directives (ADs) issued to date. Chromalloy’s expertise in high-performance PMA components aligns with its mission to support operators with practical, reliable alternatives to OEM-supplied parts.
